Jan Benedict Encourages Patients to Build on their Strengths to Create Effective Strategies for Life

Jan Benedict uses a kind and compassionate approach in her work. She is committed to helping clients utilize their strengths to improve the quality of their lives. Jan recognizes the unique history and experience of each person, and believes that the therapeutic approach must complement the person and their objectives.

Jan’s varied work and life experiences give depth to her clinical work. She is interested in helping clients with issues across the lifespan.

Jan’s clinical experience includes working as a Behavioral Specialist with adolescents at Swedish American Health System’s Center for Mental Health. She completed a one year internship at Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling, where she practiced using John Briere’s widely recognized Self-Trauma Model for survivors of trauma. Jan also worked with adult and adolescent clients on a wide range of issues during her second internship at Family Counseling Services of Northern Illinois.

Jan has experience working in a corporate environment, helping others balance professional and personal issues to achieve their goals. She is a past president of a non-profit agency where she addressed a variety of issues affecting the welfare of local families and promoted understanding within our diverse community. She has considerable knowledge of community resources available to clients.

Jan earned her B.A. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and her Master of Social Work from Aurora University at George Williams College, Williams Bay, WI.
